Manoharganj upazila of Comilla district is identified as a remote area. The upazila was formed in 2005 with 11 unions in the southern region known as the watershed of the greater Laksam upazila. Located on the banks of Dakatiya river, this upazila was once known as a business center. From here, jute and other agricultural products were sent to Narayanganj and Dhaka via Chandpur by ship and boat. In the evolution of time, they have disappeared today. The common people of the area depend on agriculture and fishing. No natural resources such as oil, gas or coal mines were found in this upazila. The people of the area make a living by producing agricultural products, grains and fishing.
